This is a post I have had pending in the background and I am now so pleased to be publishing.
Since day 1 have said that I would like as much of my shoes to be made in the UK as possible. Since then, views have waivered and quotes have scared me. In the past I have had things made from abroad purely because the price difference was incomparable. When working on a shoe string budget (pun intended), these things really matter.
However, for the latest prototype, the LR5, we have managed to find someone in the UK who not only does small quantity runs, but can also achieve a near bang on competitive rate for abroad. That means we wouldn’t have to incur import fees, distribution costs and most importantly of all the environmental cost.
I am delighted to announce that for the next prototype (the LR5), we will be making 100% of it in the UK. This may not seem like such a big deal to some readers, but for me it’s absolutely massive. It means I can stay true to my values, and deliver the best possible product I can. Some of the shoe will be made by the National Composites Centre, some in Surrey and some in London. It really will be a team effort, and everyone involved are as impressed with this as I am.
What’s more, I know the people who will be making everything for me personally. I can shake their hand. They are in one way or another helping me out, and that also makes me beam with pride. It’s been a long couple of years for Lucy Rose; the pandemic has stretched timelines and inevitable bumps in the road have occurred, but soon, I’ll have another pair of shoes that I created from scratch in my hands and I cannot wait.
