Hello, I’m Emily, the founder of Lucy Rose. People talk about the founder story and why they set the business up, so here goes.
At the age of 13, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. My life was turned upside down. From being someone with predicted A’s at GCSE’s, in all sports teams and a love of life, I started to lose myself. I didn’t know who I was, what I was good at or what my purpose was.
The medication I was on for three and a half years only made me worse. My memory suffered, and as a result I can’t even remember doing my GCSE’s (needless to say, I failed most of them) and I was told I had to give up my beloved sport.
Once I was on the right medication, my former self started to come back. I found my academic success again and it felt good. I left school with four A-Levels and a drive to succeed.
Around the same time I saw many girls take off their high heeled shoes after a night out and it got me thinking this can’t be the best solution. My Dad being an ex-Formula 1 design engineer, seemed like a good place to start. I gave him the problem and we haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Fast forward seven years, we have proof of a concept many people told me couldn’t be done.
My A-Levels gave me a taste of academic success, and I continued into University, leaving with a First-Class Hons Degree in Business Management along with the Overall Contribution Award. My years of underachieving gave me a tenacity to never give up and question “what else can I achieve?”.
That is why I started Lucy Rose, and that is why you can be sure that I’ll finish it.
