Hello Roses,
Haven’t been here in a while, and there’s good reason for that – we’ve been busy. Busy designing and making the LR4. Fourth prototype and with any luck, the first fully functioning Lucy Rose shoe. Now as exciting as this sounds, and believe me it is; it hasn’t come without its fair share of frustration. Why is it that everything takes not twice but three times as long as you think it will and twice as expensive!? And even then, it doesn’t work for some reason!!! Unluckily perhaps I haven’t come from a design and development background where this is all par for the course. I have come from a corporate world where the boss says they want something done and the resources and budget are there to get it swiftly done.
For me, this has been one of the biggest learning curves – trying to allow myself to curb the frustration because it is to be expected when you are designing something that perhaps has never been designed before. Frustration turns into impatience, and impatience isn’t useful for anyone. I woke up this morning excited about going to pick up the latest piece for the LR4, and by the end of the day, I am frustrated that changes need to be made which will push us back by a couple more weeks.
As I sit here drinking my tea in an attempt to not hit anyone, I can’t help being reminded at the progress we have in fact made. In the last 18 we should have had three prototypes made, each one inching closer to the product that will give Lucy Rose life and that will eventually fill us with pride. Occasionally, we as founders, need to switch lenses, from the zoomed in to the zoomed out in order to fully appreciate the magnitude of what we are asking of ourselves and those around us.
Fellow founders, go forth and conquer – at whatever speed is necessary.
